Is the Co-operative Wholesale Corporation over?

Regarding the liquidation of the Cooperative Taga Trading Corporation, the Cabinet has approved the cancellation of the previous decision and restarting with a new plan. The new proposal is presented by the Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security and Cooperative Development Mr. Wasantha Samarasinghe.

The Satasa Raj Group of Institutions, which was established under the Cooperative Wholesale Corporation Act No. 47 of 1949, had been decided to be liquidated by the Cabinet of Ministers. Thus, the main reason for the termination of the corporation was that the Cooperative Wholesale Corporation had become a loss-making institution.

Closing an organization is not an easy task. There are many problems to be faced during the closure of a cooperative corporation. Among them, the large consumption mission that the employee community was providing to the organization's assets and the entire community can be mentioned.

It is a big question how the government institutions that are able to make huge profits lose money. Are not the government institutions of our country losing the expected profits due to fraud and corruption?

After coming to power, by giving jobs in government institutions to their associates, family friends, relatives and their wealth gainers, there are three to four times more employees than the institutions require. Many of the employees recruited in the cooperative wholesale trade corporation have had to die for nothing.  These lead to misdeeds and misdeeds.

A similar situation happened to Sri Lanka Airlines. It is tragic for the airline as well as the entire people of the country to have to maintain an unsustainable employee community. The decision regarding the Cooperative Wholesale Corporation is auspicious at a time when the current government, which came to make a revolution in a short period of time, could not fulfill even a certain percentage of what it said.

The development of a country means the creation of an environment in which the people can live properly. It is the main responsibility of the government. The work done by the Co-operative Dengwenda Corporation to meet the increasing food and other needs is huge. So, shouldn't the authorities of the political authority properly protect the system of government institutions and implement plans and protect government institutions?
